Sunday Supper

Growing up I remember going over to my (Grandma) Nanny’s house after Church every Sunday. The best Sunday dinners I’ve ever had. My Nanny was an awesome cook as was my Mom. But one of my most favorite meals that Nanny made was Fried Chicken, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and gravy. OMGees, My mouth just waters thinking about it…

Here’s my recipe for Fried Chicken.

Ingredients for Wet
1- 3 Lb chicken, cut up
2 cups buttermilk
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp poultry seasoning
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • For the seasoned flour
  • Dry mix
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 1/2 qts vegetable oil for frying
Directions
for WET… In a large ziplock bag pour in buttermilk and all your seasonings, shake until blended well.
Toss chicken pieces in buttermilk mixture until chicken is coated. Refrigerate for up to 4 hours.
for DRY…Combine flour, salt, paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, white pepper, and onion powder in a large ziplock bag.
Remove chicken from the buttermilk mixture and toss in dry mixture until each piece is completed coated in the seasoned flour.
Heat oil in a large Dutch oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Cook chicken pieces for 10 minutes. Turn and cook for another 10-15 minutes.
Remove chicken from the oil and transfer to a cooling rack set over a paper towel lined baking sheet.
Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.
